Cotton vs. Polyester Comparison

  • Cotton (Sew-On): Natural, cotton with a classic look. Best for quilts that will be gently cared for. Fade-resistant, but must follow gentle wash care instructions. Ideal for gentle use or display quilts. Backed with HeatnBond FEATHERLIGHT to hold it in place while you sew and reduce fraying.
  • Polyester (Sew-On): Non-Stretch with a soft brushed finish. Best for quilts that will undergo frequent washing or heavy use. Permanently printed and fade-proof.  Perfect for gifting, ensuring the label remains intact and vibrant over time.

Quick Tip:

If your quilt will live mostly on a bed or wall and be gently cared for — cotton is classic.

If your quilt will be gifted, used daily, or needs to survive the wash over and over — polyester is your best friend!

Quilt Label Application

  • Cotton Labels: Backed with HeatnBond Featherlight. Temporarily holds label in place while sewing. To reduce fraying, fold edges under before stitching.

  • Polyester Labels: Trim and sew directly onto your quilt. Optional to fold edges under—extra fabric is included for that.

Label Care Instructions

  • Cotton Labels: Wash on delicate with cold water. Hang to dry or use a low setting. Avoid high heat to preserve print. Not fully colorfast.
  • Polyester Labels: No special care needed. Machine washable, fade-proof, and long-lasting.
